Promotion Policy

Promotion to the next grade is contingent upon successful completion of the academic requirements of the current grade level. The following chart indicates the remedial action required for academic deficiencies.

Deficiency Remedial Action
Kindergarten Lack of readiness for formal academic instruction and/or socialization. Retention at current grade level.
Grades 1 and 2 Level 1 in any two of the following: Math, Reading or Writing.

Level 1 or 2 in Math, Reading or Writing.
Retention at current grade level.

Summer school or tutoring with September evaluation to determine if Academic Intervention is needed.
Grades 3 and 4 Level 1 in any two of the following: Math, Reading or English Language Arts.

Level 1 or 2 in Math, Reading or English Language Arts.
Retention at current grade level.

Summer school or tutoring with September evaluation to determine if Academic Intervention is needed.
Grade 5 Level 1 in any two of the following: Religion Reading, English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science.

Level 1 or 2 in Religion Reading, English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science.
Retention at current grade level.

Summer school or tutoring with September evaluation to determine if Academic Intervention is needed.
Grade 6 F in 2 subjects: Religion, Reading, English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science.

F in 1 of the above.
Retention at current grade level.

Summer school or certified tutor.
Grade 7 F in any 2 of the above subjects.

F in any 1 of the above subjects.
Transfer required.

Summer school or certified tutor.
Grade 8 F in any 1 subject. Diploma withheld until completion of Summer school.


Consultation between parent/guardian and teacher concerning retention at all grade levels will take place at mid year conferences.
Administration will make the final decision.
