Assessment of Student Progress and Promotion
The development of our curriculum is based on guidelines from the New York State Education Department and the Education Department of the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
The assessment of student progress is reported on standard report cards that are used throughout the Diocese. These reports are designed for K, Grades 1-2, Grades 3-4, Grade 5,and Grades 6,7 & 8. The grading policy and assessmnt guidelines are explained on each set of cards.
The marking system is based on class participation, homework, tests and quizzes, both long and short range projects and trimester tests.
At each grade level, this system should reflect the development of higher thinking skills. These skills include rote knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation.
The Personal Growth and/or Community Awareness section is a vital aspect of the report card. Parents/guardians should study this portion carefully to ascertain how improvement in this area may positively influence the academic area.
All students in Grades 2-7 must complete a summer reading assignment. Grade specific assignments are attached to the final report card. All reading activities are to be handed to the teacher during the first week of the new academic year.
